Villa Canto del Mare is a charming and authentic Sicilian villa, beautifully situated right at the water’s edge between the coastal towns of Balestrate and Terrasini, near the delightful village of Trappeto. Surrounded by lush gardens and spacious terraces with breathtaking panoramic views of the sea and western Sicily’s coastline, the villa provides an idyllic setting for a memorable holiday. The property, carefully integrated into the natural landscape, is composed of three independent levels—one set slightly higher than the others—each providing privacy and tranquility.
The terraces are particularly inviting, offering ample outdoor spaces for relaxing, sunbathing, or enjoying shaded moments on the covered terraces. Guests can also take advantage of the villa’s outdoor kitchen area, complete with a large dining table ideal for enjoying leisurely meals and ‘Al Fresco’ dining. Approaching the entrance along the stone-paved pathway, guests will be captivated by the vivid contrast between the lush green garden, colorful flowers, and the deep blue sea beyond.
Inside, Villa Canto del Mare is thoughtfully and tastefully furnished, offering comfortable, cozy rooms—all featuring stunning sea views. There are four distinct terraces, each overlooking the beautiful gulf, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the seaside experience. A charming garden path leads directly down to the water, offering easy access for a refreshing swim or an unforgettable sunset dip. The villa can comfortably accommodate up to 13 guests.
The nearby village of Trappeto, just a short drive from Villa Canto del Mare, offers shops, restaurants, and amenities. It is an old fishing village that has retained its traditional Sicilian charm, boasting excellent local restaurants serving fresh seafood and regional wines, and a beautiful sandy beach stretching for miles.

Our main reason for choosing the villa was for the amount of outdoor space and privacy, the villa is set in a large plot and not overlooked by any other properties. We liked that the villa had a “homely charm” and enjoyed the quirky layout over many levels. Most of our time was spent on the main veranda with beautiful panoramic views and glorious sunsets but it was easy to find a quiet spot in the extensive grounds for reading or an afternoon nap. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of serving dishes and pans along with another wonderful view across the gardens and to the sea beyond. The pool was just the right size for our party and ideal for cooling off during the very hot days and even as the sun set on a few evenings. We also spent more time in the sea than we have on any previous holiday. The convenience of just popping down the steps to take a dip when you felt like it was great and again we spent a few evenings in the sea as the sun set. As mentioned before the view is amazing and we didn’t get bored of watching the sun set over the hills in the distance, perfect. Check in was very straightforward and thorough, we were also very grateful for the welcome gifts left for us on our arrival. We would definitely recommend Villa Canto del Mare as a lovely place to unwind in peace and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, thank you once again 🙂
We had a group of thirteen including children and found it to be the perfect location for this kind of holiday, with lots of separate areas so individual families could have their own space when needed. We were met by a very friendly and informative guide- Gigigiola- who greeted us warmly and introduced us to the very friendly and helpful maintenance staff who came out to resolve minor issues promptly. The kitchen was stocked with some Sicilian produce which was a lovely touch. The pool at the villa is perfect for kids and has incredible sea views, as have all the main terraces which have brilliant facilities for group meals. We made good use of the pizza oven and barbecue! It’s important to note that a car is essential for travel into nearby towns and supermarkets, but there is a an entrance to the sea at the bottom of the garden and sandy beaches at a walkable distance. Overall a near perfect stay and good value for a bit of luxury. Will definitely be returning, thank you very much.
It is a lovely place, starting from the beautiful and extensive garden, hidden terraces everywhere which allow private retreats but with enough large spaces to sit together to the magnificent views over the sea and the surrounding area to the house itself, which is large and comfortable. An additional goodie was the very warm welcome given by Ms Barbasso it was holiday starting from minute 1. She and the caretakers also provided prompt support for start of the season issues (the heating did not work immediately, but this was fixed on the day we noted that). A place to recommend!
We enjoyed our time here included a visit to Trapani, the ancient fortress of Erice, the beautiful beaches of San Vito del Capo, our beach bar in Trappeto, the market in Palermo. Our hosts were thoughtful generous with their time. We really enjoyed the wonderful welcome! If get a chance, make sure you have a sicilian meal cooked in the villa-delicious! We will return. Arrivederci Sicily!
The house is very comfortable and perfect for 3 families. The garden and the terraces are great. And the view… amazing! We enjoyed a lot going to the beach down the house. Everything was tidy and in order (and when something broke, it’s been repaired a few hours later). We had a great welcome and it was very easy to get in touch with the person in charge of the property, who always quickly replied to us when needed. It was a week to remember!
Fabulous sea views, very comfortable and a large garden. We particularly loved watching the planes scooping water from the bay to tackle fires. The proximity of the sea was amazing. We could pop down to do snorkelling whenever we wanted. Swimming pool was small but a lovely temperature and the kids enjoyed it a lot. We had a couple of problems (no hot water for a couple of days downstairs but we were able to use the shower upstairs). The owners worked as hard as they could to resolve and it was sorted in a couple of days. The lights also went downstairs but an electrician was called to solve it the next morning. We didn’t use the private chef service at the villa as the price seemed quite high and as we had two fussy eaters, we didn’t think it would work out. Whilst the villa really was comfortable, clean and beautiful, the area around it is quite dirty with rubbish on the side of the road being a particular problem. If you drive 15 minutes, however, you are at Castellammare del Golfo which is a very pretty fisherman’s town and there are some absolutely beautiful coves to swim in. Crystal clear water. A boat trip is an absolute must. Castellammare also has the best restaurants we found. If you want a relaxing holiday where you barely need to leave the villa to enjoy Sicily, I would highly recommend Villa Canto del Mare.
Thank you for everything!
Barbara the owner is very nice!
Unsere Erwartungen wurden übertroffen.

We have just spent 10 days here with friends to celebrate a birthday. The house is even better than the photos online – it was so nice to be greeted by the owner & Gigliola & they left us with a lovely aperitivo hamper. The house was really clean & plenty of space to relax alone. Being able to swim off the rocks all day was just perfect. We bought fresh fish & barbequed a few times & one night we had Marina come & cook a 4 course Sicilian dinner – it was really delicious and I would recommend this to future guests. A trip to Zingaro, la Tonnara, Erice, Monreale for the Norman Cathedral is highly recommended. I hope I can return to this amazing paradise again. Grazie Mille! Brooke
Danke an Marina.
Sicily is an amazing place. Villa Canto de mare is amazing too. It has very big, beautiful garden and gordeous view to the sea. The house is beautiful especially teracce with a view to the sea.
“Villa Canto Del Mare has glorious views, fabulous mature and naturalized landscaping, so it was a delight to look out at the sea and enjoy the grounds. The villa is open to light and while compact feels spacious. Bedrooms are on multi-levels, providing lots of privacy. There is plenty of room for family and friends. The kitchen is quite serviceable, with a dishwasher and other small appliances, and we were provided with starter supplies of bottled water, wine, fruit, and cake. The small pool was a wonderful respite from the heat. The laundry facilities provide for a washer and there is ample provision to hang things out to dry.
A special shout out to Gigliola, who was a wonderful on-site representative. She was so welcoming and made us feel instantly at home. She provided us with the starter kit, local information, was super responsive to address any issues we had, so that we felt comfortable and confident that we had a local contact who would help us instantly.
We reserved a chef to cook us two Sicilian dinners, one vegetarian, the other fish. Marina is a wonder — she loves cooking and loves food, and her food was outstanding. Everything was fresh, perfecting seasoned, and she is a delight. Homemade caponata, fabulous pasta with mussels, and homemade cannoli. We enjoyed talking with her and learning about her family. This is a do not miss!
Some important things to consider — parking is upstairs from the villa, and the pool and seaside are downstairs from the villa, so there are lots of stairs. No problem for us, but it would be a stretch for the mobility challenged. The house water is not potable, so guests are provided with an initial supply of bottled water and can purchase more at one of the markets nearby. And guests are responsible for getting the garbage and trash to roadside for pickup.
If you imagined a romantic, airy seaside villa overlooking the shores of the Mediterranean this could be it. It is not ostentatious, and its quaintness, and the sense of the owners love and care in the house and the grounds, makes it so very livable.”
It felt like our home from our first day to our last. Close enough and far enough away. Stunning and perfect in every way. Fino alla prossima volta.
Fantastic holiday in idyllic surroundings
